Sharing contacts between Windows Mail and Outlook 2003

Just upgraded to Vista Home Premium from XP Home and until now used Outlook
Express for personal mail and Outlook 2003 for work email. That allowed me to
share contacts between the two programs, without having to import/export each
time. Doesn't seem to work between Windows Mail and Outlook 2003, however -
in Windows Mail there does not appear to be the capability to access Outlook
contacts, and Outlook doesn't appear able to access the new Windows Contacts
thing which replaced WAB. Anyone know if you can share contacts between
Windows Mail and Outlook 2003?

Have you solved this or gotten helpful input for other sources?

I would like to do the same thing.

Nope, unfortunately I've struck out repeatedly trying to get a fix for this.
As a result my expensive upgrade copy of Vista is on a dual-boot
configuration at home and is almost never used as I've had to stick with
XP... All the bulletin board responses I have received have said it is not
possible to do what I want to do. Hopefully someone can come up with a fix at
some point.

Thanks for the response, but not the answer I was hoping for.

Disappointing that this "feature" we both valued has been taken away with
Windows Mail. (In my case, it was a great way for my wife using OE and me
using Outlook to share a common set of contacts.)

Another approach that occurred to me is to use Profiles in Outlook 2003
(i.e., select between two or more Outlook users while logged into Windows as
same user). But without Exchange Server in the equation, I am not sure
whether it is feasible to share contacts between profiles--and you can only
be in one profile at a time.

While people have different reasons, my sense is that you are not alone in
sticking with Win XP for now.

If the Outlook2003 and WM combination will not work, any suggestions on how
to solve the general problem/goal?

Goal: With a single Windows login account (User1) in a home setting
(Workgroup vs. Domain), how can I allow two different email identities to
share a common set of Contacts while having separate inboxes, personal
folders, etc.?

In my case, my wife and I have traditionally shared a common Windows login.
She has used Outlook Express, while I have used Outlook (2000, 2003). This
combination has allowed us to share a common set of contacts since OE was
able to use the Outlook contacts. Really convenient. I hate to add
"manually synchonizing contacts" to my list of Windows housekeeping tasks at
home.

Note: I do not want to lose the features of Outlook like Calendar, Tasks,
Reminders, etc.

Just a thought...

If you would both use Windows Mail (or Windows Live Mail), you could create
2 user login accounts in Vista and set up the same email program for both.
Each account would have a contacts folder.
You could then use Sync Toy to keep the contact folders the same, and use
TaskScheduler to run it every night.

I don't know how you could keep Outlook in the mix.
