Importing OE6 -> Windows Mail - Messages Vanish
I successfully imported thousands of messages from my wife's Outlook Express
6 directory into Windows Mail. I can send messages fine also.

However, once I close Windows Mail and re-open it, all messages vanish.
Folder counts remain accurate, but I cannot see any messages.

Computer is a new Gateway Core2Duo running Vista Home Premium with McAfee
A/V installed. Upon restarting Windows Mail, McAfee seems to be running
through all the messages, even though I've explicity disabled email scanning.

Has anyone else seen this?

If it said it imported them, then they should be in the message store
folders.

Re: Importing OE6 -> Windows Mail - Messages Vanish
You may need to exclude McAfee from scanning the message store directories
as well as email scanning. I'd disable McAfee completely and import the
messages again and see what happens then.

Windows Mail is not going to automatically wipe your messages unlike OE.
Something else must be doing it.

Re: Importing OE6 -> Windows Mail - Messages Vanish
I uninstalled McAfee and all the messages appeared.

So, the solution to this problem is to uninstall McAfee. Personally, I've
never liked McAfee ... I'll install Norton 2007 instead.

Re: Importing OE6 -> Windows Mail - Messages Vanish
I too was having the same problem (import the mail, everything is fine, close
Win Mail, bring Win Mail back up, and no messages).
Yesterday afternoon, I imported the messages again, and everything seemed to
be okay.
This morning, I fire up the comp, go into Win Mail, and no messages. Won't
even check for new e-mail messages.
I have been working on this problem for 4 days now. And throughout this
whole time, I suspected McAfee as being the problem, as I kept seeing the
McAfee scan box come up, each time I'd enter Win Mail.

So, without doing another thing, I closed Win Mail, un-installed McAfee, did
a restart, and when the comp came back up, I opened Win Mail.

Low and behold, everything was there!
Win Mail checked for, and downloaded new messages without a hitch.

Not only did un-installing McAfee resolve my Win Mail problem, I also no
longer have to deal with those annoying, whiny little McAfee pop-ups about
registering the software, every 5 minutes.

I'll be installing Zone Alarm, once the Vista version is available.

Norton is just as bad.
