File assoication problem with attachments in Windows Mail
Hi, just started using Windows Mail on my new Vista computer. I have a
problem opening some attachments, such as .pdf & .pps (so far those are the
2) where is says" This file does not have a file associated with it for
performing this action. Create an association in the Set Assocations control
panel" This is despite the icon within the email being Acrobat or Powerpoint
(depending on the file) and the association set up correctly. I have to save
the file to my desktop before I can open it. Any ideas, this is driving me
crazy!

I'm not so sure the .PDF problem is fixable. It doesn't work for me either.
For .PPS, first save the attachment to your desktop, then right-click on that
saved file and select Open With... and pick the program you want.
This selection should stick. If you still can't open .PPS attachments from
within the mail program, try this fix:

Re: File assoication problem with attachments in Windows Mail
Thanks Gary, if you find a fix for the pdf thing, please let me know. The
first fix you gave me didn't work but the article fixed the pps problem
straightaway!

Another quick question....in Windows Mail, when you have a message open and
delete it, the previous message opens automatically. I knew how to fix this
in outlook, but have been through the Options and can't find how to just make
it return to the inbox.

The only way to avoid opening the next message after deleting one,
is by not using the preview pane. Go to View, Layout, uncheck "View
preview pane."
