Won't restart after update downloan
Bought a brand new vista pc less than four weeks ago. Used it for two weeks,
and about about a week ago, Vista looked for, and downloaded updates on its
own. I've been having issues with my audio card....having to reboot once in
awhile to hear anything out of my speakers....so when I went to reboot, it
told me it was going to install these updates before the reboot.....

I had no choice..it was either 'ok' my restart or cancel it, and since I
wanted to HEAR audio..I chose restart.

When the PC rebooted..saw a quick flash of a BSOD and got a message saying:

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the
cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2.Choose your language setting, and then click "Next".
3. Click "Repair your computer."

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer
manufacturer for assistance.

File: \windows\System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys

Status:0xc0000098

Info: Windows failed to load because a critical system drive is missing, or
corrupt.

AWESOME! Only had the thing two weeks, haven't had the chance to make the
back up CDs.....and I've sat on hold with Acer for 90 minutes wthout talking
to a person....

ALL BECAUSE OF A MS UPDATE!

OH! And because I never wrote down my PID...I can't use the Chat or Email
functions to talk to somebody on MS's site! The number isn't listed anywhere
but in the software itself, so now that I can't see it, I'd have to pay
someone at MS!

I should have bought an apple.

This was you biggest mistake right there. That was the first thing you
should have done was made those discs. You can't mess around like that,
because you're leaving yourself open to get burned, which is what happened
to you.

Let's be realistic here, s*it happens and it's up to the person sitting
behind the keyboard and mouse to protect them self when things go wrong.

Hopefully, you can get some CD(s) from Acer, as you should be under software
warrantee with them.
