cd does not install vista

i'm usng XP and received two disk to upgrade to vista.
one is an HP upgrade assistant.
the other is windows vista home basic express upgrade.

they did install on the pc (model hp pavilion a400n) but
did not change the XP to Vista

As Carey suggested - Vista comes on a DVD. If you did install via a DVD
drive - did you change the destination of the Vista installation to a
folder other than C:|Windows?
