Well, yes..... Your Product Key was already in use; by yourself from
the initial activation. But there's nothing that said you can't use it,
only that you can't activate via the Internet.

I don't blame you. I'd feel pretty silly too if I had to pay someone
sixty dollars to tell me to read the on-screen prompt to activate by
telephone.
