install error code 0x80070003

several attempts to install windows vista 64 ultimate have resulted in the
error message: "windows cannot install required files. the file does not
exist. make sure all files required for installation are available, and
restart the installation. error code: 0x80070003". i've tried installing
from the dvd-rom, and from a copy of the dvd-rom on my hard drive, each
several times. please help.

Are you allowing Windows to go online and get updates during install from
the desktop? That error is usually related to updates. Try unchecking the
online update option.

attempts to install windows vista from windows have been with, some without
updates and some with updates, resulting in the same error.

I am having the same problem.. I have spent over 9.5 hr.s on phone with
microsoft and still no go.. all the test are good to go but the soundmax
one.. I have to say this is nuts.. Good grief what a pain.. my video
card is fine on test too.. Vista Ultimate is about to go back to the
store at 400.00 a pop I would think it would run better then this.. I
was hoping to get all the use of my ram.. Just built this system for my
birthday end of Dec. waiting on Conan to come out want to use all my ram
and dirext x10 dang.. :cry:
