Cannot re-install vista home

I purchased Vista home 3 months ago ( upgrade version ) I installed it on my xp machine no problem.Since then my hard drive crashed and on another hard drive I re installed my win XP and the my Vista home. When I went to put in the license key it said I cannot use this key. Any help would be grateful

Nothing you said should prevent you reinstalling. Recheck your typing and make sure you are using a licensed and activated version of XP to upgrade from. You should consider making a copy of Vista after you get it set up to use as a base so you don't have to go thru the XP install and upgrade if you should need to down the road.
