Vista installation freezes after "Windows is loading files..." scr
Hi, I intend to buy Windows Home Premium to install on my PC, but to be shure
all my hardware is going to work properlly with it, I'm trying to install
Vista Beta.
At first I creatted a virtual PC to test the Beta version, and it worked
perfectly. But when I try to install it on my HD... no way... I boot my PC
with installation DVD in the drive. The installation begins, the screen
"Windows is loading files..." is shown, and when the next screen starts to
appear (with a progress bar and the text "(C) Microsoft Corporation", the
system freezes.
I tried to start installation by Windows XP too. Then it's possible to
choose the partion, the files copying starts, but after the fisrt boot, to
continue installation, the system freezes in the same screen.
Some people told me to try replacing my memory chips, but the problem
persisted.
Any idea on what can I try?

P.S.: I have Windows XP installed, to use dual boot.

Intel Core 2 Duo 6600 (2.40 GHz)
MoBo Asus P5D WH Deluxe
2 GB RAM (2 x 1GB RAM DDR2 667 MHz Samsung)
HD SATA2 250GB
Video Card nVidia GeForce 7600GT
LCD Samsung 713N with VGA connector adapted to the video card DVI connector

Tks!

My computer is doing the same thing!! I'm livid. I've been troubleshooting
for hours and Im ready to drive to Washington and shoot out the windows in
the microsoft building. No pun intended. I wanna say its a SATA thing, but i
dont think the drives are utilized at that point. I have a 1.6 GHz AMD and a
Gigabyte Mobo. If I come across the issue I will post. Plz do the same. Good
luck.

I had the same problem when I first tried to do an upgrade over MCE 2005, but
then discovered the workaround to do a clean install with the upgrade
version. I tried that, along with removing all unnecessary components and it
installed fine! Just make sure you had your HDD driver or SATA driver handy.

Hi

After lurking on these newsgroups I have just signed up and am relating my
experience with dual booting.

I have 2 Sata Hard disks.

XP is installed on disk one (0)

After making the bios changes I would make disk two (1) as the
booting disk. It has no operating system.

Vista would stall very early on.

By trial and error I found out that the only way I can install
Vista on the second disk was to UNPLUG the first disk.

After Vista is installed I would plug the XP disk and then
do a repair on Vista. The would pick up the XP in the
menu.

RE: Vista installation freezes after "Windows is loading files..."
My HD is a partitioned 250 GB SATA2. About the SATA driver, it can be useful
only if I'm going to do an upgrade, is it right? Because, when I'm installing
via DVD boot, I don't have options to select specific drivers... or the
installation can use Windows XP installed drivers?
Tks!

Wrong! The SATA drivers for Vista have been a problem for many people.
You must be careful to find Vista drivers for your SATA controller
before you start to install.

The option is not as obvious as it should be, but you should see it at
the bottom of your screen before any Vista files are installed on your
disk. After Vista starts writing files to your SATA disk it's already
too late to supply the correct SATA driver -- do you understand why?

By the way, Vista doesn't ask you to *select* drivers -- it offers to
let you *supply* drivers. That is a very big difference!

Re: Vista installation freezes after "Windows is loading files..."
Great! I traced the information you gave about the SATA driver and faced an
important fact at ASUS site: the BIOS of my MoBO was old, and I found a very
newer version. There are some changes for SATA interfaces. I executed the
update and... goal! The installation now works properly!
Tks a lot!
