Capt,
Vista does not like running in a system where all of the memory is not
matched and running at the same speed.
I suggest that you try installing with only 2GB of memory installed

Remove some RAM, down to 2Gb and hey presto Vista started to load no problem

For some reason, this issue seems to be more prevalent
with non-Intel chipsets. I've installed 64 bit Vista Ultimate
a few times on a P965 chipset system with 4GB RAM, and on an
X-58 chipset system with 6GB RAM, with no issues.
