I was having a problem with my network. My computer wouldn't see anything
other than my modems, it wouldn't access any networks at my place of
business. On top of that my CD/DVD ROM quit working! In device manager it
said it was there, but there was some "Registry Issue" that kept it from
working. I also had numerous software issues that weren't compatible with
Vista, 2 out of 4 printers I use wouldn't initialize, just a whole mess of
things. So I posted another thread about it. Someone suggested this link:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/ and to try "Method 2". It involves
deleting registry files, which frankly scared the crap out of me. But I was
planning on taking it to a computer repair store this weekend anyway so I
figured what the hell I'll give it a shot. AND IT WORKED! LIKE EFFING MAGIC!
All my drives were restored, I could see my network, I could use my printers,
my previously non-functional software was working again, it was amazing! In
my mind I think MS should write this function into the Vista installation
process. I'm not saying it will work for everything and everyone, but I had
about 6 MAJOR issues that it totally cleared up. So before you junk your
system or spend a dime on MS Tech Support, try this first, you might be
surprised.
