Re: HP Recovery discs
What is the native resolution of your laptop screen and what resolution are
you using with it?
When you say "dropped back to the next setting" what setting does it drop
back to and does your monitor display it?

Native resolution on the notebook is 1280x800 so that should be able to
display as is on the Samsung with black bars above and below. You'll need to
set the Display options to Extended display mode if you want to use
different resolutions on each monitor when both monitors are enabled. You
might get around this if you toggle the external port mode to operate as
External Display Only.

The refresh frequency of the on-board LCD is probably set to 60Hz by default
in Windows display settings but if it happens to be less, or much higher
(75Hz) that could be the cause of a compatibility problem with the external
monitor. See the advanced display options in Vista for the current
etting -- 60Hz should be compatible with just about all monitors and
resolution settings. In dual display modes you should be able to set the
refresh rate independently for each monitor.

The HP driver you mentioned was released in Feb-09 so it is the most current
driver for that computer. I note that it is nearly 114MB where the graphics
drivers at AMD/ATI are usually only 46MB, so the HP package probably
includes motherboard chipset drivers. You need to be careful with drivers
for OEM motherboards as generic drivers may not support the same feature set
as provided by the OEM. I know for instance that my HP OEM ATI card has
less features and software support than the ASUS original that it was
derived from. Updated drivers for graphics only cards may not work properly
with integrated graphics chipsets.

I checked at AMD and there are no drivers being displayed at all for
notebook HD 3200 graphics under Vista but there are some listed under
chipsets/motherboards with on-board HD 3200. If yours is listed among those
and you want to try newer drivers you should update the motherboard chipset
drivers along with the graphics driver.

Re: HP Recovery discs

Hello

Yesterday I want to run a recovery on my hp pavilion 2630ea and for
that was backing up a data ... but run out of space at my flash memory
... so i just make a new folder next to recovery folder in d drive (my
recovery drive) and stored about 2gb of data in that folder...

before doing that recovery was using 5 gb out of 7.79 and after storing
data only 29 mb was available....

so after doing all of that stupid thing i run a recovery and when i
return back to a windows i was shocked that there was no folder just was
a recover folder and the drive was using the same space of about 7.79 mb
... its mean that the data is still some where on that drive but i cant
see or access it ....

now i am facing a problem low disk space at d (recovery drive) ... but
the size of recovery folder is only 192 kb ... so whats using the space
....

i have spoken to hp customer services n they told me that just run a
recovery again using recovery disc and i have done so but no vail ...
got the same low disk space message with only 29mb left out of 7.79 gb

please help me out that how i can recover that data or atleast go back
to my previous stage ????

many thanks

jannu

All the files and folders you put on the computer in Windows have an "owner"
account attached to them, usually the currently signed on user but sometimes
it might be some other account instead. When you run a full system recovery
all of the existing users/accounts are erased and replaced with new ones.
Your folder is still there but because the identity that created (owns) the
folder does not match with any of the new identities/users that Vista knows
of, it is being hidden from you just as if it belonged to a different
person's logon account. You might have to enable and log in to the hidden
Administrator account in order to change the ownership of the folder to your
new User logon. Instructions for enabling the administrator account are
here:

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67...r-account.html

After you're done you should disable access to that administrator account
again.

The only time I had a similar problem, logging in to the hidden
administrator account made the files accessible and I could change the
ownership and access them from Vista again. It was a while ago, I might have
logged on in Safe Mode. One other way that might work is to boot the
computer with an OS that does not care about Vista user accounts or
security. You could try booting from a "live" Linux CD. If the folder is
visible on D: drive you could then copy the files to C: drive or wherever
and delete them from D:. Then boot into Vista again and resize D: (dangerous
as you can damage the recovery function) or do whatever else you need to do.

Re: HP Recovery discs

"This in response to my original post about a monitor problem after
getting my laptop back from HP repair;

I ended up "rebuilding" my system using the recovery discs I had
created several months ago.
This put the device back to where it was when I bought it. I was able
to install devices - wireless keyboard/mouse, external hard drive,
printer AND monitor.
When I connected the monitor it hooked right up and the display was as
it should be. No messing with settings at all, just like the first time
I connected it when I bought the laptop.
So, I guess the conclusion is that HP screwed something up when they
installed VISTA et all on this device after the repair!
I want to thank all who contributed to this post."
