Easy Transfer Hangs, wont close

I'm trying to use Easy transfer between (OLD) XP w/svc pk2, to (NEW)
Vista Bsnss.
I'm doing it via an external Hard Drive. I installed the migwiz.exe.,
and rest of Easy Transfer to old XP, and it slowly completed that part
of the job.
First time through it completed transfer of data to new Vista, but 1/2
way had a hang.
CLosed it out, and tried again...to get the data from Hard Drive to
Vista....again
Hang 2/3rds through.
Hit escape to close and try for the 3rd time, and it wont close either
(easy tranfer)
If it helps, I can say that each step of the process has been 6 plus
hours
(from XP to Hard Drive, from Hard drive to Vista)
Whats going wrong?

If its data you are refering to & you cannot network the two PC's, simply
copy data to external, then from external to Vista
NB do not copy any outlook data files to the outlook default location, copy
to Documents folder

Thanks Yes I'm External HD and will try to find a way to prevent outlook
from copying to default location...If I had more familiarity with Vista
I'd try it manually.
