Help regarding vista system restore.

Hello,

Basically I was having trouble with my laptop, keept getting error
messgaes and the vista screen did not show up, after I installed a
program which cleaned out my registries. So I got the error message >
> c:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\desktop refers to a location
> that is unavailable.it could be on a hard drive on this computer.or on a
> network. check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that
> you are connected to the internet or your network and then try again. if
> it still cannot be located the information might have been moved to a
> different location.

So, I decided to use the system restore tool and restore to an earlier
date when I was not having these problems.

But now that I have done this, it restarted and the startup page simply
loaded and is 'stuck on this screen.

I dont know what I should do, as its been over 2 hours and the screen
is still there, should I turn my laptop off? Will that effect it really
badly? it just seems to be stuck , not progressing.

Any help is appreciated!
Thanks
