Any forex traders out there? I need help!!

I am trying to start forex trading. I have to download a trading platform and the get a username and password but I am always getting a NO CONNECTION note at the bottom roght hand corner of the screen. I have done everything possible including disabling firewall with no success am still not connected. Am sure I have to do some settings on my computer to get connected to the platform but I don't know how. Please help!!!!
