Accessing files on AS400

hello I use vista 64bit business just starting to install and test/debug
muy usual list of applications

I can acces files on my as400 if I use the netbiossystem name in the
uncpath...but icant use the ip of the as400 problem is I have a legacy
app that only uses the ipaddress so when in the application (RVI) I can
not getthe file I am after

I can ping the 400 using either the IP or the system name ..I have added a
line in my host file for the 400
