yahoo mail file association

i cannot open yahoo mail from yahoo IM...says something about no file
association,
tried to research how to fix...but no idea what the file/protocol is
supposed to be, where it is supposed to be, how to associate etc...i just
wanna get to yahoo mail from yahoo IM
