vista install advice needed

Ok..here is my situation. I am currently running xp. I have met all requirements for vista upgrade (basic home). I copied a friends vista install dvd onto a hard drive that is slaved off of my xp drive. When I click the vista setup icon....I get the....please wait curtain...and then a 0x0 error. Is this installation possible??
