Installation Problem

I am currently trying to install Windows Vista on my computer, but an
error keeps the installation from being a success. It tells me of an
error labeled "0x8007045D". Currently, There is no working OS installed
into the computer and my XP disk won't work also. Is there any way to
fix this? Thank you for reading.

Please give more information about your computer make and model, the edition
of Vista (x86 or x64), and at what stage this error occurs. This error is
usually a device IO error. Be sure all non-essential devices have been
disconnected.

The computer is a Compaq Presario SR1920NX.
What I am trying to install is a Windows Vista Business x86.
I'm not exactly sure what is is called when the error occurs, the
second phase of installing/unpacking, etc. If you need me to find out,
it might take a while because I have to reconnect the other computer.

You may have a problem with your DVD drive.

Are you installing from a genuine DVD or a backup of Vista?

Wipe the dvd with a soft cloth and try again.

I take it the computer came originally with XP preinstalled? Can you
restore to factory condition and then run the Vista Upgrade advisor?
