Ok, A $400 Full Version Vista Business Ultimate/NEW OS that stops 30 minutes
in and asks "Please insert the driver disc" Which driver I ask myself,
wow....any given motherboard may have upwards of 20 different drivers (Not
including Video card, TV Card etc.) depending on how hard the manufacturer
worked on compatibility? So I have an ASUS P5W DH Deluxe Windows Vista
Certified motherboard in front of me with every gadget possible to get
running for my client. So I spend considerable time downloading every driver
I can find but CANNOT bypass or continue with the installation of the OS?
Because someone decided to GREY out the NEXT button unless ALL DRIVERS are
located? Brilliant! But wait, to make it better Vista does NOT ask me what
general basic drivers Im to go looking for? Video? USB? Sound? Wireless? Who
certified this setup procedure obviously has not had ANY history of
installing an OS on hardware. After hours of frustration and 1 option only to
quit the installation I land up having to install Windows XP Pro on the
system then run the Vista upgrade clean install option, turn the old files to
WindowsOLD and when the system finishes find out that the system stopped for
a built in WIRELESS CARD and a driver for a REMOTE CONTROL USB device. Ok Im
an MCSE and been building systems for 20 years now and thought I had seen
stupid stuff but this takes the cake! You MUST get rid of the STOP procedure
in the OS for drivers, it must allow the installer to complete the basic
installation regardless and update drivers AFTER completion.

RE: What were you guys thinking? System Builder Gripe!
Hello,
I have never seen this prompt before.
Hmm, can you grab the log files when you are getting the error message?
Use this article to locate the logs:
927521 Windows Vista setup log file locations
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;927521

Log files could be at either one of these two phases.
You are either in this phase:
Windows Preinstallation Environment phase
or this phase
Online configuration phase

Can you collect the log files, zip them up and send them to me.
Send them to me.
Remove the online portion of my displayed email address to send me the log
files.

This was a clean install, boot from DVD, not an upgrade correct?
Thanks,
Darrell Gorter[MSFT]
