Install new motherboard and cpu
I must install a new motherboard and cpu due to heating issues.
My current system is listed below.
Motherboard:
CPU Type DualCore Intel
Pentium D, 3000 MHz
Motherboard Name Intel Corporation
PRAGUE
Motherboard Chipset Unknown
System Memory 2048 MB
BIOS Type Intel (01/29/07)
Communication Port Printer Port (LPT1)
My new motherboard and cpu will be.
Asus P5N - E SLI Socket 775 with a Intell Core 2 Quad Q6600 with
4 GB of OCZ Platinum PC 6400 800MHz
I would like to use my current hard drive and would like to know the
following.
Once I make all connections and am ready to boot the new system what will
Vista Ultimate that is installed on my hard drive ask for?
I have all my disk (not OEM) but I wish not to have to format and have a new
install.
All comments are welcome please......
Thanks to all in advance.

RE: Install new motherboard and cpu
The chances are that you will have to do a re-install, as you are doing major
hardware changes.
The OS will think it is a new computer.
Also, you will have to re-activate.

Re: Install new motherboard and cpu
Llee,
I recently had to replace the MOBO and CPU on my Vista HP 32 bit system and
it was a piece of cake.
Even though the MOBO and CPU brand were different it booted right up and
even reactivated over the internet without even having to use phone
activation.

Re: Install new motherboard and cpu
The motherboard is your only concern. There are lots of drivers for
motherboard chipsets that Vista uses. Once you change the motherboard,
you are at the mercy of Vista to recognize the new chipsets and replace
all the drivers. Given that, the likelyhood of it starting up fine is
pretty good. If it boots up, put in the motherboard disk, and install
the drivers for it. Do this even if you don't SEE any problems.

Re: Install new motherboard and cpu
It may be because Vista32 HP SP1 RC1 was installed on my HDD and not the RTM
release.
