How to get to the Dos prompt

When I turn on my laptop and before windows starts, how can I get to the DOS
prompt command window? I need to run a check disk. Thanks

Press F8 after POST (may have to tap it repeatedly) to get to Advanced Boot
Options. Select Safe Mode with command prompt.

Hi,

Do as Paul states. Be aware that there is no underlying DOS layer in Vista.
What you are running is simply the command line interface to Vista.
