Minimizing windows/programs to task bar not working

I am using Windows Xp and tried to post this question earlier but my
connection went down during the post and I don't see the original posting on
the site so I will post it again.

I used to be able to minimize windows/programs and have the icon appear on
the toolbar. Now when I minimize they seem to disappear. How can I fix this?

might be interference by easy launcher.

by the way this is a vista news group not a xp one.
