Upgrade Not Possible?

Hey,

I am trying to upgrade my computer from XP 32 bit to Vista Business 32 bit.
It is a brand new HP Compaq nw8440 and other students with the same laptop
have been able to upgrade to vista, yet when i go through the upgrading
process, I get an error message where i would select to upgrade saying that
"Compliance checks cannot be performed. Upgrade is not available, therefore
the upgrade option has been disabled" Why can't it check the compliance? I
have checked it outside of installation and gotten the go ahead, but it can't
even start in the installation. Thanks!

Are you doing the upgrade from the running XP desktop?
You don't boot from the DVD to upgrade.
