Vista reinstall problem

Came home to find my PC in blue screen of death, reboot and it says cannot
find OS, insert Vista CD/DVD and it will not let me select the upgrade or
repair option, only full install. try to install into different partition but
it still reformats my main HDD. Is there any way to get the info on the main
HDD back?had a backup on the HDD but that has now gone with the reformat?

You could try to use one of the recovery products you can Google for on the
internet IF you did a quick format. Otherwise it will be an expensive
proposition.
Vista only formats the partition you point to, so if you formatted the wrong
drive, you chose it.
