Hi Steve,
Before you upgrade, check that you motherboard can indeed take the new
processor. Generally they can, but they might require a BIOS update, in which
case follow the manufacturer's instructions, and be aware that updating your
BIOS is a risky business which can leave you with a dead machine. If you need
to do the update, be aware that you do so at your own risk. Also be aware
that if you do need to upgrade your BIOS then reactivation WILL be necessary.
