Install Win98se on Vista system
I have an Acer Aspire E380 - Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 2.2 GHz 1GB Ram
running VISTA and most of my games, flt sims, etc. will not
run on it even though most of them are Microsoft programs
i.e. MS Flt sim, MS force-feed-back joystick, MS Combat Flt
sim, etc. I thought my solution was to partition the hard drive
with a FAT32 partition (which I can do with VCOM System Cmdr9)
and install Win98se. On further checking I discover that Win98se
has limitations such as 512MB of RAM and no processor over 2.2GHz.
My question is: is the 512MB of RAM a deal breaker? I have also
been told that it might work but with reduced performance. Any
advise would be greatly appreciated.

Your computer does not support Windows 98.
Find an older computer.

Hi REPINFL,

If you download and install 'Virtual PC 2007', you should be able to solve
your problem.

"Dwarf" as I understand things Vitrual PC will not work with Vista Home
Premium.
I am now looking into purchasing a RVM switch and just haul out my old
gameing machine and hooking it up to my keyboard/monitor/mouse. I think with
that setup I just startup which ever machine I want to use.

RE: Install Win98se on Vista system
Hi repinfl,

Although the documentation says that VPC 2007 will not work with Vista Home
Premium, just ignore it as it works perfectly. My own system is Vista Home
Premium and I have installed a copy of Win98SE in VPC 2007. Note, however,
that the virtual drivers in VPC are basic but adequate. The following is the
warning received when running VPC 2007: 'You are not running on a supported
operating system. Please see Microsoft Virtual PC help for the list of
supported host operating systems. Virtual PC might run on other operating
systems, but these configurations will not be supported by Microsoft Product
Support Services.'
