Upgrading from different language version

I purchased a laptop in Italy and it came pre-loaded with the Italian version
of Windows XP. Can I upgrade to an English version of Vista without any
problems?

No. You would need to purchase a "Full English Version"
of Windows Vista an perform a "clean install".
