DVD drive installed but not functioning
I have a BTC DVDRW-IDE1108 drive that functions within Windows XP without
problems, but it does not function at all within Vista Home Premium.
When installing Vista, I am able to boot from the DVD to the intial
installation screen with the greenish background. At that point, the DVD
drive no longer functions and I have to reset my computer.
I was able to install Vista from a flat installation (files copied to hard
drive and setup ran from there) and boot into Vista with all other devices
installed and functioning properly, so there is not any problem with the
Vista disc. The DVD drive was detected by Vista and listed under the Device
Manager without any reported problems. When I attempt to insert any disc (DVD
or CD), the drive's LED will blink as if it's attempting to read the disc,
but the disc will not play and the computer will hang until I remove the
disc.
I have the latest firmware for my drive installed from the manufacturer's
website, and there are no software drivers available other than the drivers
provided by Vista.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated, preferably other than to
replace the drive. At the moment, I have formatted my computer and
reinstalled XP until I can figure out this problem.
