Windows vista (64) 0xC0000005 error during install
I have built a new machine, there is not existing os on it, and every time I
try to install vista ultimate 64 bit I get a 0xC0000005 during the second
step of file extraction, it seems a fairly predominant error as it appears
this error is documented here
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/928633 and there's a link to
this article on the vista page
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/ph/11732, so I imagine it's fairly
common. But the on thing I'm sort on is a solution that works.

I don't have a second install disk to try, there is no physical damage to
the disk that I can see, as I can't install it I can't benefit from free
Microsoft support as I can't get the product key, unless this is somewhere
very hidden on the label?

I don't envisage this is hardware problem but for reference I have the
following

Gibabye monther board GA-N650SLI-DS4
http://tw.giga-byte.com/Support/Moth...ProductID=2514 (with latest bios F7)
Intel Duo Core E6850
Hard drive Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 750GB S300
2GB kit (1GBx2), Ballistix 240-pin DIMM, DDR2 PC2-6400
http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/part...2KIT12864AA804
Antec NeoHE 500Watt Power supply
RADEON HD 2600 PRO
http://www.powercolor.com/eng/produc...ProductID=1417

Is there anyway around this error, of is it time to ask for a refund?

Ps. If anyone can help I'd be very grateful

Hi Dave,

Have you checked for a firmware update for the optical drive?

Just a personal note: I've not had much luck with Ballistix memory. Just a
thought, but you might want to run a software test on it. Download here:

Re: Windows vista (64) 0xC0000005 error during install
Thanks for that I ran memory scan last night, which you can do within the fix
my install from the new install screen, and no errors where found, I got till
about 5 passes, given the price of memory, it might be worth me trying
another brand? I have no idea how you would go about installing an optical
drive driver (if that's not a tongue twister) without an actual os but I've
tried two different drives, one is, a drive I've been using with oem version
of xp for years.

Ah the roaring beast I built, so close yet so far ;(

Re: Windows vista (64) 0xC0000005 error during install
Hi,

A firmware update rewrites instructions in the electronics of the optical
drive itself, and is not the same as a driver file (which is a bit of
software the OS uses to communicate with the device). Generally, these can
be done from a bootable floppy or CD that also contains the firmware update.

If the ram passes the tests, then it's probably not the issue.
