Vista install failure. Now can't boot XP or anything. Please help
Had trouble getting Vista to install properly and now I can't boot back to my
old XP or do a Windows Roll back.

Just got Vista Ultimate, tried to dual boot with XP on a different partition.

First install problem: When putting Vista 32bit or 64bit disc as bootup disc
to install, it gave me a loading Windows files w/ progress bar screen. Then
after full progress bar, the monitor loses video signal and goes black and
there is no indication of my computer processing (LED lights) and nothing
happens ever after that.

I read someone had the same problem in beta on some forum, but I don't think
it was resolved. I did put the latest bios on my motherboard. But still
didn't fix the problem.

I then decided to install within XP. Installing on a different partition on
my main drive with XP. I read that I had to do this on the same drive in
order to get the dual boot screen at bootup. Set up a 80gb partition, made
it primary (the C: partition w/ XP is also primary). So it started the
installation process, I put in my activation key, went through a few more
screens, set it up to make a clean install on the new partition (V. Then
it said it was going to install files and restart several times. I walked
away. Came back later. My screen was blank and nothing was happening.

So then I reboot the computer, got the dual boot menu. I don't remember if
it said Windows Vista as the 2nd choice, because it happened so fast and I
wasn't paying attention, but nothing happened (went to black). Then I went
rebooted, saw it says Old Windows Installation 1st choice, and Windows
Rollback 2nd choice. Picked the old XP boot, then it went to black again and
nothing happened. So rebooted and tried the Windows Rollback, it started to
load files then
it stopped and then nothing happened.

Then maybe this was stupid, but I thought if I format the V: vista
partition, it would automatically load back to XP without the dual boot menu.
So I did that using a partition Live CD (Gparted - linux). But it still
gives me the dual boot menu with everything going to black and nothing

I've tried booting from the Vista installation discs again, same thing as
before. Loads the Windows files with progress bar, then goes to black. Also
tried old XP installation disc, for recovery. No luck. I don't have
emergency start up disc because I don't have one of those old floppy drives.
Tried this thing called Ultimate Boot Disc for XP, no luck. Almost starts up
XP, but then goes black.

I had unplugged most extra devices (USB, extra hard drives, etc). No luck.
I even tried no hard drives, and same thing - goes black after loading
Windows files.

I don't know. Probably need to buy a new hard drive and reinstall XP.
That's all I care about right now is working XP. I don't need Vista (got it
free from the launch party), but it would be nice since I have it. So if
anyone has any answers to either problem. But priority is XP. I need my

My specs:
Asrock 939 Dual SATA2 motherboard w/ 2.30 BIOS (latest)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 64bit, dual core, 2.0ghz)
2gigs of RAM
ATI Radeon X850xt video card (AGP, 256mb)
many hard drives, a lot of space. Main drive with XP and Vista
partition is on 300gb Seagate SATA2 drive (hooked up to SATA I)
Echo Audio Gina 24 audio card
Gateway 22" widescreen LCD monitor (hooked up DVI, also tested VGA to see if
it was only outputted VGA when it went black/lost video signal, but same

Got my XP to load back up again by fixing the Master Boot Record with
Recovery Console on the Windows XP installation disc.

Now to install Vista now?
