Vista installer can't see disks
I'm trying to do a clean install of Vista on an AMD 64-bit dual core
processor. The PC has 1.5 GB RAM and a single IDE drive. I'm launching the
installer from the DVD within windows XP x64 Edition. It starts, then gives
the error message that "Windows could not retrieve information about the
disks on this computer." Clicking OK closes the installer.
Any suggestions? The drive is a 200gb on the primary IDE channel...very
basic setup, so not sure why it can't see it. Drives appear fine in My
Computer within XP.

RE: Vista installer can't see disks
TechNet says that these newsgroups will give "...expert answers to your
technical questions within one business day – guaranteed." Guaranteed!! I
guess I get a refund on my TechNet subscription now?
Seriously, would appreciate any suggestions from the MS folks that moderate
here.

Re: Vista installer can't see disks
Have you tried booting from the Vista DVD and installing from there?

Re: Vista installer can't see disks
You should post on one of the TechNet newsgroups. This is not one. This is
only a peer to peer newsgroup and is not a Microsoft moderated group.
That being said, you need to do a custom install from the DVD not from the
desktop.

Re: Vista installer can't see disks
Thanks for the suggestion DOM. I hadn't tried this b/c I didn't have a
bootable DVD (was running off a Firewire DVD), but went ahead and salvaged an
IDE DVD from another PC. That seems to be working fine now...

Re: Vista installer can't see disks
Good.
Hope all goes well.
You probably won't be the only one with this problem.

Re: Vista installer can't see disks
Hi, I have the exact same problem but it occurs whether I try to install from
within my XP Pro or direct from the installation DVD.
Would appreciate any advice that people can offer.
cheers
