uninstalling Vista

I have a new emachine I got at Wal-Mart. It came with Windows Vista. I hate
it. Can I uninstall Vista and install Windows XP. I have all the soft ware
from a Dell computer, "operating System Disc,etc." Can I sue this or not?

Not legally. That's an OEM version of XP and only legal for the machine it
shipped with.

Also, some Dell OEM cds would only install on Dell hardware. Not many, but
some of them.

In addition to the above, can you get all the drivers required for your
hardware for the XP OS? If any of the components are new, there may not be
XP drivers and the system was designed for Vista.

No. The Dell software can only be used on the Dell
computer it originally came with.

Hi,

Better to contact Emachines about whether they offer downgrade rights.

A) The Dell disks will likely not install on non-Dell hardware.

B) The Dell disks will likely not contain drivers required for the
Emachine's hardware. Generally, drivers for proprietary hardware needs to be
supplied by that manufacturer.

C) If you don't have downgrade rights and the system fails, you may either
void your warranty or be required to put the originally installed OS back
on.
