"onto vista and it would recognize/upgrade it to the new versions of
word,"
Windows Vista is an operating system, not the same as Microsoft Word
so one does not upgrade the other.
Exactly what is the "existing word" since that is not included or part
of any Microsoft operating system?
Is your Microsoft Office a full or upgrade?
How are you trying to install Microsoft Office?
