SATA not supported for Gold Vista
Here is my setup:

ABIT ULI M1689 Motherboard
Onboard LAN
Onboard Soundcard
SATA 150 controller
AMD 64 3200+ Socket 939
1 GIG PC4200 RAM (not overclocked)
nVidia GeForce 6800XT
Seagate ST3250820 SATA Drive

I can install Vista IF I do so from within XP so that I can load up the SATA
drivers that come with my motherboard. If I don't do this, I get a BSOD.

What I want to know is, HOW can I install from booting off of the DVD if I
want to install Vista WITHOUT having XP already on the system? I can't do it
currently because when it comes to the animated Windows logo, it BSODs before
I can even get to the installation screen when I boot off of the DVD.

I've hit F6 and F8 while the DVD is booting and nowhere do I see where I can
choose an option to load my drivers off of my floppy or USB stick.

Is this even possible or am I stuck with having to install XP first and then
Vista?

I guess it's time to upgrade the motherboard, but I just purchased it about
4 months ago and unfortunately, Abit has decided to discontinue it already.

Thanks for any help in this matter.

Re: SATA not supported for Gold Vista
Hi Ivan,

The option to install SATA drivers doesn't occur until after the point where
you indicate that you want to install. There's not going to be a way around
that short of creating your own image (not exactly a trick for the home
user). You may want to check with Abit for an updated BIOS, as there may be
some incompatibility with the current instruction set.

Re: SATA not supported for Gold Vista
Rick,

Thanks for the info. That is unfortunate for me because it appears Abit is
no longer supporting this motherboard and they haven't had a new BIOS update
since March of 2006.

I guess it's time to find a new motherboard. Sigh!

Thanks!

Re: SATA not supported for Gold Vista
If you will Google for 'm5289" and 'Vista' there are 1500
links for information about your SATA chip on the web.
There might be a useful link. Put the information on the
top line to find "with all of the words" in Google Advanced
search.
