x64 Ultimate: Installation challenge
I am trying to install Vista x64 Ultimate on a XP Pro system.

1. My Alienware Dual Xeon system passed the MS Vista upgrade compatibility
test with flying colors.
2. When I insert the x64 Vista installation DVD it can't see the hard drives.
3. I had researched and located the Silicon Image Sil 3114 SATARaid
Controller driver and downloaded it. I burned those driver files to a CD.
http://www.siliconimage.com/support/...1&satar aid=0
Driver 6/24/2007 1.5.15.0 229 KB

4. I then stuck the SAT controller driver in a CD ROM drive and browsed to
it's location, then the installation siftware indicates that no drivers are
on that drive....

Suggestions?

Do i need to replace the SATA controller with one with better Vista x64
drivers???

Re: x64 Ultimate: Installation challenge
Hi,

Did you extract the files from the .zip before burning to a CD?

Re: x64 Ultimate: Installation challenge
Not familiar with your machine but there are quite a few mobo that use 2
different SATA controllers and as such need 2 different drivers.
Then of course there is that 64bit issue...are the drivers you are trying to
use 64bit???
