bcdedit - change legacy OS description
Hi all, and thanks for your help in advance.

I would like to change the description of the Windows Legacy OS Loader from
"Earlier Version of Windows" to "Windows XP"

Here is a copy of the current description, any help on the syntax to achieve
this would be greatly appreciated.

Windows Boot Manager
--------------------
identifier {bootmgr}
device partition=C:
description Windows Boot Manager
locale en-US
inherit {globalsettings}
default {current}
displayorder {ntldr}
{current}
toolsdisplayorder {memdiag}
timeout 5

Windows Legacy OS Loader
------------------------
identifier {ntldr}
device partition=C:
path \ntldr
description Earlier Version of Windows

Windows Boot Loader
-------------------
identifier {current}
device partition=D:
path \Windows\system32\winload.exe
description Vista
locale en-US
inherit {bootloadersettings}
osdevice partition=D:
systemroot \Windows
resumeobject {0a9fc941-81b1-11db-91e3-c70aa9d63cbd}
nx OptIn

Thanks very much.

Re: bcdedit - change legacy OS description
Rather than go for the complex route download the freeware application
VistaBootPro. Vista's BCDedit is as unfriendly as an injured bear.
VistaBootPro, on the other hand, is one of the most user friendly
applications around. Just install it and then run it - if it refuses to run
then you may need to use elevated mode. To do this just right click on the
VistaBootPro icon and, fromt he drop down list, Click the Run as
Administrator option. Once VistaBootpro has launched click the Manage OS
entries tab and then highlight the OS name you want to change and then place
a tick in the box next to the Rename selected operating system option. a
dialogue box will then appear for you to type in the new name.

Re: bcdedit - change legacy OS description
I agree about VistaBootPro, it's a good app that I use on my machines. But
there is something to knowing how to do it manually as well.
