Upgrade from home basic to ultimate issues

I'm trying to upgrade from home basic (pre-installed on my machine) to
ultimate (have the disk). It goes through almost the complete upgrade, then
at the last moment it says it can't install one or more components, and that
I must restart and try to upgrade again. Any way of finding out where the
hangup is happening?

Have you checked whether your hardware is compatible with Ultimate, the
system requirements between Vista Home Basic & Ultimate are completely
different.
Graphics, memory, CPU, etc.

I ran the compatability advisor and it didn't flag any issues.
