Here are detailed instructions:
Remeber to download the installer and not just the drivers. The installer works like updating an NVIDIA driver etc.. The installer you want to download is not in the top Windows driver box it is about half way down in the second windows driver box with this above it:
RTL8110S-32/RTL8110SB(L)/RTL8169SB(L)/RTL8169SC(L)
RTL8169
"Vista 32/64 Auto Installation Program (SID:1354432)" is the one you will want to download.
Step 1: Go to Realteks website,
Realtek go to "Communications Network ICs then Network Interface Controllers then 10/100/100M Gigabyte Ethernet and then choose PCI Software and then "select all". Scroll half way down the page and you will find a Vista 32/64 bit driver!. Download the "Vista 32/64 Auto Installation Program (SID:1354432)" , NOT just the driver, as it Windows Vista will not detect it if you try to update, you must have the installer to install all the drivers into Windows .
Step 2: Save file to desktop or where you prefer as it can be deleted once the application is done.
Step 3: Go to control panel, Device Manager and right click and disable any onboard or remove any other cards and uninstall them in the device manager.
Now install as directed.
A. Run the application you downloaded from Realtek. During install it will say it could not find a device or not recommended etc but just continue.
B. Once install is completed go to device manager in the control panel and right click on the Ethernet not being recognized, "EG1032" it will just say Ethernet with the symbol it is not being recognized and choose update driver or install driver . Then choose "Browse my computer for driver software" and a new window opens. Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer" and another window pops up. Scroll down to "Network Adapters" and choose RealTek on the left window and PCI GBE Family Controller in the right window and hit ok.
You may have to reboot your pc and modem but I did not. It works perfectly.
