RE: Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe Not Recognized
I spoke with ASUS support. They told me they would not be supporting Vista on
this board. I've complained so loudly to Fry's, that they've agreed to take
mine back and allow me to apply the refund to another mb that ASUS will
support.

RE: Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe Not Recognized
I have VISTA 32bit RTM on this board, all ports/drives plugged into the USB
headers work, sound works, NVIDIA & Marvell ethernet connections work, etc.,
etc. Only issue I had was after installing a couple of programs, control
panel would crash windows explorer. Backtracking, using system restore got
back to CP working right, reinstalled everything I had before, except PC
Probe II (that might have caused the issue), no problems now. I probably
won't be re-installing that. I have the most current bios, I doubt they'll
be releasing anymore BIOS updates for this board so there's really no reason
to have ASUS update on here. If you've got the most current BIOS, you don't
need to run any ASUS programs anyway. You shouldn't need any drivers that
aren't already installed by VISTA or after running MS update. Try a
re-install, with a format/complete install, not updating or repairing your
windows install. I've got some weird hardware hooked up/on board, the
install & update found all the drivers. Jim

RE: Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe Not Recognized
That's impressive DCELL. I assume you downloaded the updated realtech audio
drivers this week -- realtech only shipped them on the 5th.

(Of course, that wouldn't have been such a big issue for me, given that I
actually use a Sound Blaster card -- better support for my podcasting
solution -- and Creative still hasn't made a Vista driver available -- beyond
beta/RC drivers that lock up my system. But that's not the board's problem.)

I had -- still have -- the control panel freeze problem. Mine first happened
immediately after a completely clean install of Vista -- so there wasn't a
option to back anything out.

I also did a completely fresh install of XP on the same system (different
and also reformatted SATA drive). It works like a charm.

Bottom line, you can risk running Vista on this board, but ASUS (through one
of their techs) tells me they aren't going to support it. That tells me that
while you may have it up and running somehow, you can likely look forward to
an endless string of strange and probably inexplicable errors in the middle
of a compile, or perhaps a warcraft instance, or whatever.

I think I'll play it safe and go for a new mb.

Re: Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe Not Recognized
My A8N32SLI-Deluxe works perfectly with Vista x86 and x64; the real support
you'd be needing if you keep the board are the nVidia drivers for the
chipset and disk controllers. There should be Vista drivers for the Nforce
4 chipset for quite a while to come. ASUS "support" amounts to allowing you
to download the nVidia drivers. I don't think you have anything to gain by
changing boards but keeping the same memory and CPU.

All good wishes.

RE: Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe Not Recognized
Actually, since my last post, I've since traced the 'control panel crash' to
the Realtek Vista driver available from Realtek-the one they had up in
December, not the most recent one you refer to. I will try that new one you
refer to next couple days. I've since re-installed PC probe, works fine, no
crashing issues, etc. This box is pretty much full so there's really no ROOM
for a better quality sound solution though I wouldn't mind trying one.

After running the RTM for a while, we'll see if I'll actually put it on the
other machines I have.
