Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard
I'm running Vista Enterprise RTM upgraded from XP Pro. I have a MS Natural
4000 Keyboard (USB) and a MS 8000 Bluetooth Mouse intalled... I have
downloaded and installed the Intellipoint and Intellitype "software/drivers"
6.1 for Vista from the update site. Feature wise, the mouse and keyboard are
working properly... but here's where it gets interesting...

I have multiple instances of the keyboard and mouse and HID in devices
manager, along with a number of "Unknown" devices...

Every time I restart, log out, or user switch, I'm prompted five times that
Windows is trying to install the drivers for these devices unknown, mouse,
keyboard, etc... If I cancel the installation(s), Vista loads and functions
normally... If I select any other option, such as "let windows find the
drivers" (fails), "remind me later", or "don't ask again", the mouse (only
the mouse) stops working and only a system restore gets it going again...

I've tried uninstalling Intellitype, Intellipoint, and uninstalling ALL the
unknown, HID, mouse and keyboard devices from the device manager, and the
problem persists...

I'm perplexed and frustrated... Vista can't seem to find drivers that should
be there... Intellitype and Intellipoint seem to install the drivers, but
none of the install routines follow the course described in the
documentation... for example, the conncection wizard for the bluetooth mouse
seems to invoke the "unknown hardware" driver wizard when the bluetooth
tranceiver is plugged in...

So what's the solution ? Keep my fingers crossed and hope MS will get the
drivers worked out ??

Is anyone listening ??

RE: Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard
I have no idea what Microsoft are doing with Intellipoint.

There still seems to be losts of issues with the Vista compatible release,
even though the beta release notes said they would be sorted in the final
version.

My PC won't even stay in sleep mode....either the mouse or the keyboard
polling is waking it up.

Either that or I have a ghost!

I was able to fix that by unchecking the "allow this device to wake the
computer" for both the keyboard and mouse in Device Manager. (I use the
power button to wake the PC back up.) But I haven't been able to get the
"monitor off" power saving to work (well it works, but I can't wake it up!)

I had the same problem with Logitech equipment so it's not just
Microsoft/Intellipoint.

So I found a decent enough solution but this is something that is supposed
to just work. Especially since Sleep (S3 standby- power to RAM only - but
with a hibernation file on disk as a backup) is the new default "off" button
in the Start Menu and works quite nicely for starting up the computer very
fast. A lot of people with USB mice are going to complain about being
unable to "turn off" their PCs!

Re: Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard
This is only a problem with 27 MHz wireless setups. After MS released the
"final" drivers for Intellipoint\type and they didn't fix the problem I went
out and bought a desktop set that uses 2.4 GHz instead. No my baby has
screen saver, goes to sleep on it's own and wakes up without crying.

Re: Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard
So you think it will be fixed when MS gets Intellipoint updated to 27Mhz USB
Hubs... the one shipped with the MS8000 bluetooth mouse ?

Re: Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard
Doesn't seem like it. Initially it was noted as a bug in the beta release
of Intellipoint\type but the final release made no mention of it still being
a problem. Don't hold me to it but I thought I read elsewhere in the
newsgroup that it won't\can't be fixed.

Hmm I don't use wireless mice or keyboards (too easy to lose them!)

I reverted back to a basic wired PS/2 mouse. My wireless rodent not only
had a voracious appetite for batteries, it also frequently tried to commit
suicide by throwing itslef onto the floor ;-) And it played havoc with
screensavers. Now my screensavers work, and sleep and hibernate are
perfect.

Re: Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard
This discussion's off course some... and by the way... the MS8000 Mouse has
a 2.4GHz Bluetooth "hub"...

Re: Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard

Hey there-

I'm having this exact same problem! Did you happen to ever find a
solution? Anything you've descovered would be great!

Thank!

Jeremy
