Try going to Control Panel/Programs and Features and uninstalling the
Realtek software. You might also go to device manager and uninstall the
Realtek sound device driver there as well.
Reboot. Vista will install a generic HD audio driver.
Then go to the Realtek site:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/
and download the latest HD Audio drivers. As I type this, current Vista
version is 1.53 released Dec-11-06. Realtek has been amazingly good at
keeping up wit Vista all through the beta cycle and these drivers are now
MS-certified (from a press release: "Realtek Receives the Windows Vista
Premium Logo Award for its High-Definition Audio Driver."
Their server, in Taiwan, runs on a Apple IIe (which is to say it is a tad
slow sometimes) but that is my only complaint about their support for Vista.
There are MUCH bigger companies not doing nearly as good a job.
