Cooling fan on Toshiba laptop

I just bought a Toshiba Satellite A205 laptop with Vista. The cooling fan
cycles on and off constantly when I'm using the machine. Is something wrong,
or are there settings to control this?

From your description that sounds typical for a laptop. But still make
sure you are not blocking any air vents while using it. Also, if you
place it on your lap or a pillow (or anything else soft and pliable)
that could cause it to heat up faster. Best to always keep them on a
flat, hard surface.

get speedfan 4.32 that way you can control your fan speed also checks
cpu temps,, i been using for over a year and all great,, even works in
vista.

It's doing that to keep the CPU cool, it turns on when needed, off when not,
perfectly normal and I would not try to use any utilities to keep it from
doing so.

My daughter has the same problem with her Toshiba laptop. About every six
months we have to use the hose from her vacuum cleaner to such the dust out
of the fans from the bottom of the system. Also sometimes she fails to
place the laptop on a hard flat surface and this of course blocks the fans.
which suck from the bottom.

this is not typical,,i have a dell 9400 duo core 2,, 2 gig and my fans
dont cycle all the time...if this is doing this all the time..there is a
problem,,it means the cpu is not cooling right..i would recommend
speedfan 4.32 this app will not stop the fans it can tell you what temp
the core is and cpu,, and chassic on the laptop ,,also it can be
adjusted to a certain threshold where the fans kick in..you need to see
the temps on the screen,,and speedfan has been tried and tested by
thousands of dell users on there forums..i have no such trouble with my
laptop i cant even hear the fans when there on,,,and the extracter fans
dont run fast,, there slow and quiet,, if your fans are at full wack all
the time they come on..i think theres a prob..or it could be your bios
setting or update needed.. or it just might be toshiba laptops that do
this,,, Dell certainly dont.

UPDATE..ok i just visted toshiba forums and googled ,,and apparently i
have read alot of users that have toshiba laptops are complaining on
fans and fans are noisey on these laptops,,so i guess its the laptop
build. i did read someone saying its a bios problem as his fans are
contantly on and off every minute. .your best bet is to go on the
toshiba forums and get some info on how other users are having problems
with there fans..might be worth a try.
