Thanks for the advice, however it did not cure the problem. I have been
playing in the background and got the device working.
For information the problem was the fact that the CD Writer was plugged into
the EIDE channel on the mother board. The ASUS P5LD2 mother board has 1 IDE
connector, 2 EIDE connectors, and 4 SATA connectors. The EIDE connectors will
support IDE devices, however Vista will treat devices connected on these as
scsi. When I connected the CD Writer to the IDE connected it changed the
CD-ROM device from
SONY DVD RW DRU-510A SCSI CdRom Device
to
SONY DVD RW DRU-510A IDE CdRom Device
and it now allows burning.
Don't ask me why microsoft treat the device differently but hey It works so
I'm now happy.
