Re: Sata Drive not recognised
I disagree.. My setup:
Gigabyte GA-K8U (uli m1689)
IDE0:0 = Maxtor 6L200R0 Ultra ATA
IDE0:1 = not_used
IDE1:0 = SONY DRU-800A (DVD Burner)
IDE1:1 = SONY CRX320EE (CDR)
SATA1 = Maxtor 6V200E0 SATA
SATA2 = not_used
When I first built this system with XP, I set the BIOS "ON CHIP SATA MODE"
setting to "IDE". XP INSTALLED, BOOTED, RAN perfect without me having to
install any extra driver anywhere. I installed the system on the IDE0:0 and
used the SATA as storage partitioned as NTFS.
On this box, I have the luxury to format and start the Win Vista install
from total clean system. Same as above, the same Bios Setting. The Vista
install crashes before it even gets anywhere. BSOD and then the system
restarts to fast for me to see the errors.
So, I disabled the SATA port in BIOS and install went smooth. After
installation, re-enabled SATA port, and Vista stops during boot, no BSOD,
just stops. I set the ON CHIP SATA MODE to "RAID" (even though there is only
the 1 drive) and I can boot into Vista, but can't see the drive at all.
Tried installing some uli m1689 drivers i found on a site, but that install
crashed even though they were tagged for vista.
so as it stands, i have a 200GB SATA drive sitting there spinning and not
being able to be read. Looks like its back to the wonderful world of Linux I
go.

Re: Sata Drive not recognised
I have this same mobo. I installed Vista by booting with the SATA mode
set to RAID and then loaded the ulisata drivers during the "choose
location to install windows" screen. I installed on the sata drive, but
there should be no reason why this wouldn't work with you installing
onto an IDE drive.
