No CD drives show in Vista
Ok guys,
I installed vista and i went go install my mother board drives from my cd
and i noticed there was no cd in the computer folder. So i went to the
website and downloaded the mother drivers and there was still no cd drives. I
can boot from a disk so the drives are ok but they dont show up. I have
deleted them in the device manager both in regular mode and in safe mode.
Still nothing every time it installs it says it fails and ends up loading it
in the Standard CD-Rom division. So i end up with two drives both saying that
they are installed but cant work and they have the yeild yellow exclimation
mark next to them.

I need these drives to work, of course, so please help me out. As far as I
know there are no specific drives for cd drives just software for the burning
part like nero and roxio. If there is i cant find it on any site.

RE: No CD drives show in Vista
Have you installed any DVD or CD writer software after installing Vista?
This has been a problem for a number of people where the drivers that came
with your 3rd party software packages are not compatible with Vista and are
being overlayed on top of the Vista drivers. In my case I was getting a
error code 37 in the device manager display for the drive. Other people are
also seeing some other code combinations.

I found that my Easy CD Creator 7.5 software was causing my problem because
the version that I had was not compatible with Vista. I used the control
panel to uninstall the software and the device manager to uninstall the
current drivers for each of my DVD drives. Then when I rebooted my computer,
Vista reinstalled the correct drivers for each drive and they showed up in
Windows Explorer again.

RE: No CD drives show in Vista
I never installed roxio or any thing else this is exactly what i did. I have
2 drives, a cd-rw and a dvd-rw, well the copy i had was on a cd and i booted
from it. Well for me to do so the dvd-rw had to be the master so i switched
that (on the back of the drives and no i dont have 2 masters or 2 slaves now)
then i booted and installed after i installed virus stuff and all that from
the internet, it didnt occur to me that i had no cd drives untill 2 days
later when i tried to install the mother board drivers. I have no cd drives
or buring software installed on my computer another thing that was weird was
that when i imported the old system settings and files it would not take any
of the settings so now all of my files that were properly intalled into the
registry and every thing are voidly put into an OldFiles folder. So now i
have to install every thing back from a cd but i cant even do that. I
understand that drivers for hardware cant just be patched by microsoft to
work in vista but its kinda unfair that none of my drives will work. Also
vista is seeing my 5.1 Live Drive from Sound Blaster as a 2 speaker system
because i have not working vista compatable drivers.

Any way first things first, i need my drives so in conclusion the last post
didnt work any thing else?

RE: No CD drives show in Vista
Try this:

1) Reboot.
2) Put the PC to "Sleep".
3) Wake it up again.

It works for me. The UpperFilter reg key thing worked once, but now no
longer does, so I just go in and out of sleep after a reboot.

I'm guessing its something to do with power management?

RE: No CD drives show in Vista
Great tip. This works a treat until Microsoft manage to resolve the problem.
Thanks.
