hd sound problem

Hi,
I'm having problems getting the onboard realtek hd sound to work on my gigabyte p35 ds4. In the device manager it says "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" and in the taskbar it says "no audio output device is installed. I've tried the latest realtek drivers. Windows doesn't detect it as a new device if i uninstall drivers and the device from device manager. I did have it working for a short while when i first installed vista home premium but it wasn't working all the time and would cut out randomly. So tried updating drivers and ended up with this mess.

I've tried updating bios but that didn't help.

anyhelp would be much appreciated

You need to check that your sound card is Vista Compatible' and make sure the
driver is for Vista enabled.

The motherboard is vista certified so I would assume the onboard would be to and I have been using the vista drivers, though I don't know if there vista enabled.
Strangly the sound device started working after the computer blue screened but then stopped after another blue screen.
