My upgradeded Vista system will not mount an 8 GB Privacy USB 2.0 Drive. It
is visible in Disk Management as a removable device without an assigned drive
letter or an active partition. Windows locates generic driver software for
the device but encounters an error while attempting to install it. Manual
attempts to assign a drive letter produces an unrecoverable error.
The problem appears to be a corrupted registry key or entry, but what and
where is the question.
