Lost functionality on waking from sleep

I seem to lose some functionality on waking from sleep. The mouse and
keyboard will not wake the computer even though they are set to do so. The
modem is also supposed to wake the computer and doesn't when you call in.

My rear USB ports do not seem to know there is any hardware in them even
though they did at first boot. The device manager says they are functioning
properly. I may have gotten around this last problem by disabling the USB
Selective Suspend item in the advanced power options (I do not know for sure
if this has corrected the problem as I haven't run it long enough since I
made the change). I am not quite sure what USB SElective Suspend is supposed
to do.

However, all these problems seem related and I would like to see if there is
a solution.

Any suggestions?

- set the power options to high performance
- install the lastest drivers for your video card
- install the lastest chipset drivers for your motherboard
- try a clean boot 'How to perform a clean boot procedure to prevent
background programs from interfering with a game or a program that you
