i successfully install vista, install my programs but after a while my
cd/dvd drives all vanish. I have tried restore, deleting drives and letting
windows find them upon reboot.

Look it over and determine whether anything in the article pertains to your
situation. Sometimes you can get a full fix, but sometimes you can get only
a partial fix and sometimes no fix. Good luck.
